Workshops & Courses

Tuesdays 9.30am - 12.30pm x five weeks
First class 6th May 2025
Venue: The Weavers Gallery, Church Lane, Ledbury, Herefordshire

The aim of the course is to to create a handstitched textile piece which records a personal story around those collections of small things many of us gather; shards of broken pottery, a shell, fabric scraps from a childhood dress, a handwritten note, a feather. Seemingly inconsequential to anyone else but full of interest or meaning to ourselves.

Your final piece could take many forms, for example a cloth book, 3D vessel, a hanging or something to frame, and it will be unique to you.

You will be guided to tease out those stories using a variety of creative methods including techniques such as wrapping, applique and embroidery, to decoratively preserve and tell the story of your precious items in fabric and thread. And perhaps to create a future family heirloom.

Skill level: Intermediate to advanced. Suitable for those with some previous hand sewing experience. This course would also suit those from other making disciplines who are interested in mixing their media.

Cost: £150 (includes base materials, handouts and refreshments)

“The perfect tutor. She instinctively knows how to encourage her students individually and brings joy and enthusiasm to the class as a whole."

"I really learnt a lot on your course, as well as stitches you gave me the freedom to do anything, and not have to be the perfectionist and all neat and tidy. My mother was an accomplished embroiderer and I always felt I couldn't do embroidery as she would be so critical. But, yes, after your class, I know I can!”
